Rocket Flames beat Morley's at MC Rising Stars League

Sunday, January 14th, 2007. The Rocket Flames, coming from a tough loss last week against a '95 Flames/Williams team (24-4), beat Lisa Morley's team 31-10 thanks to a combined team effort and good man-to-man defense. The game was played at Magruder HS and reffed by IAABO Board 12 officials. Lisa's team was a very good opponent, and deserve a lot of credit for upping the intensity in this game. The Rockets went ahead with 5 points from Babette, but she got into foul trouble early in the game and had to sit down most of the game. The first half ended 19-6 for the Rocket Flames. On the second half, the girls scored 11 more points to finish 31-10 in one of the best performances in the last few months. Adjowah was dominant in scoring of offensive rebounds, reaching double figures (10 points) for the first time in her short career with the Flames. Sarah had also a great game, agressive in offense, scoring six points and playing very well as number 4 in the diamond defense. But in overall, it was a team effort. Lauren, Rachael, Dominique and Jasmine played great defense. "Coach of the year" Nadine Reed was very pleased with the defensive effort from the team and the performance of the new players. Adjowah lead the scoring with 10 points, followed by Sarah (6), Babette (5), Yas and Jas (4 each) and Lauren (2 points from two free throws). Next week, the girls have a tough schedule, playing on Saturday the Poolesville Falcons, coached by Cathy Carnahan and "The Crush" a Bethesda-based team coached by Van Yeutter.
