Rocket Flames win Holiday Tournament at Sligo MS!

Sunday, December 17th, 2006. The Rocket Flames captured their first tournament beating the surprising 96/Flames Jankowski 26-16 at Sligo Middle School in Silver Spring.

The Rocket Flames had beaten Johnson's Flames (a 96 team) 21-6 on Saturday morning and Wilson's (a '97 team) 41-14 in the Afternoon. Those two victories gave the Rocket Flames their tickets to the final on Sunday.

Meanwhile, in the other group, Flames/Jankowski stunned Lisa Morley's Flames 25-20 and dispatched Jose Arrieta's Classics ('97) 32-16 to win the pass to the final.

After a fire drill, driving the girls from the Victory Center to Silver Spring in less than 10 minutes, the girls started slow. Jankowski's went ahead 2-0 right away from tip off and our girls seemed out of focus the first 5 minutes.

Yet, a couple of timeouts helped to focus our girls in the game and the first half ended with a the score 12-4 for the Rocket Flames. The third quarter was a team effort, giving the girls a comfortable lead 26-4.

But Jankowski did not give up. His girls kept playing hard and scored 12 unanswered points in the last quarter to get close, 26-16 but it was too late and the Rocket Flames grabbed their first trophies after a very succesfull year.
